Barney Ellaga "Snake Egg Dreaming"

270 x 126 cms Acrylic on Linen Canvas Born c. 1939, Barney Ellaga is a senior custodian, traditional owner and law-man of the Alawa community, situated west of the Gulf of Carpentaria. The country is called Minyerri, Southern Arnhem Land. Barney's works have an indelible connection with the Dreamings related to his country, and for several sacred sites he is the guardian, having total control over the entry by non-countrymen and maintaining the Tradition and heritage of these areas. Barney’s artwork is highly sought after nationally and internationally and he has had several successful solo exhibitions as well as group exhibitions. He participated in his first exhibition in 1989 and has been exhibited widely around Australia and in the USA. His artworks can be found in a number of major Australian public and private galleries and collections.
